About Us

What is the IHSS Public Authority?

Established by state law and local ordinance in 2001 by the Board of Supervisors, the IHSS Public Authority is responsible for specific tasks to help consumers and providers of In-Home Supportive Services in our county. 

What Does the IHSS Public Authority Do?

  1. Operates a registry of available IHSS independent home care providers.
  2. Provides a registry of providers to refer consumers to interview.
  3. Helps IHSS consumers conduct interviews to select a provider.
  4. Provides orientation sessions for new IHSS providers.
  5. Offers information for IHSS consumers on how to hire and supervise providers.
  6. Provides information to IHSS providers about available training.
  7. Assists both consumers and providers to problem solve.
  8. Acts as employer of record of all independent IHSS providers for collective bargaining purposes (for wages and benefits).
